Islamabad: The bill to amend Article 62 One F of the Constitution was presented in the Senate.
The constitutional amendment bill to remove the text of Sadiq and Amin from the constitution was presented in the upper house. Amendment of Article 62 1F was presented by Senator Palusha Khan of Kabul Pakistan People's Party.
In the proposed amendment, it was said that under the bill,
it is requested to remove the text of Sadiq and Amin from Article 62, the text
of Sadiq and Amin should be changed to the slogan of Truthful and Faithful. His
essence is holy.
What is Article 62?
Article 62 of the Constitution deals with the qualifications of the members of the Majlis Shura (Parliament) which has various provisions. Article 62 states that for any person to be a member of Parliament it is necessary to fulfill these conditions, which are:
No person shall be eligible to become a member of Parliament
who is not a citizen of Pakistan.
Article 62B states that a member of the National Assembly
must be 25 years of age and must be registered as a voter in any electoral roll
for a general seat or a non-Muslim seat in any part of Pakistan.
In the case of a member of the Senate, must be 30 years of
age and such person must be registered as a voter in any part of the province,
including members of FATA. (d) Article 62D states that such a person should be
of good character and not known for deviating from Islamic injunctions.
Such a person has sufficient knowledge of Islamic teachings
and is bound by the duties enunciated by Islam, as well as avoids major sins.
(f) Article 62 1F states that a person desirous of becoming a member of Parliament
must be sane, pious, honest and not have the judgment of any court against him.
Such a person has not acted against the integrity of the country after the formation of Pakistan and has not opposed the ideology of Pakistan.
It should be noted that the discussion regarding the disqualification of a member of Parliament under Article 62 OneF started when the Supreme Court disqualified former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Jahangir Tareen under Article 62 OneF. Apart from this, many other members of the Assembly have also been disqualified for life under this provision.
